Costa Rica is sixth in Latin America in female entrepreneurship
Costa Rica was positioned in sixth place in the ranking of countries that provide a good business environment for women in Latin America and the Caribbean; this list is made by the Multilateral Investment Fund (FOMIN), which have subscribed to the Inter-American Development Bank.
The authorities responsible for carrying out the study take into account those factors promoting or hindering the development of the micro-enterprises and small and medium that are owned by women.
The report is based on the index The Women Entrepreneurial Venture Scope, is jointly developed by The Economist Intelligence Unit.
According to data Costa Rica ranks as first in Central America, and Latin America is second only to Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay.
One of the factors that make it stand out at the Central American level is low operational risk for the business sector, as well as opportunities with respect to training and vocational training for women.
From 20 countries and these conditions were evaluated for this report more representative of female entrepreneurship factors, were taken into account as: security and corruption, risks to manage a business, capacity, competition, social services and the average business.
"Latin American women are among the of greater entrepreneurial spirit on the planet, but still have a very unequal representation as owners of SMEs," said Nancy Lee, general manager of the FOMIN to La Nación newspaper.
One of the encouraging is that Latin America and the Caribbean registered a high level of opportunities for training and entrepreneurship of women; for example more than 50% of those who graduate in tertiary education programs it are for women.
Access to credit is one of the elements that still show limitations for women, this represented a common denominator for most of the countries studied.
The Women Entrepreneurial Venture Scope index data is available online when you want to learn more about each country.
